Definition EEIG

The EEIG railway Trieste – Divača is a company composed of 50% by RFI – Rete Ferroviaria Italiana SpA and 50% by DRI Upravljanje Investicij, Družba za razvoj infrastrukture doo and is the coordinator of the projects of strengthening and development of the Trieste – Divača cross-border route.

The EEIG’s organs are the Assembly of Members and the Directors.

The EEIG consists of two members, one Italian and one Slovenian, and is managed by two Directors, one representing RFI – Rete Ferroviaria Italiana SpA and the other representing DRI Upravljanje Investicij, Družba za razvoj infrastrukture doo, elected at the Assembly of Members.

The EEIG (European Economic Interest Grouping) is a bilateral body recognized at the community level.
The EEIG is governed by:

  • Regulation (EEC) No. 2137/1985 of July 25, 1985, regarding the establishment of a European Economic Interest Grouping (EEIG)
  • Italian Legislative Decree of 23 July 1991, n. 240.

The purpose of the EEIG is to coordinate the shared cross-border activities of its members by sharing interests and experiences.

EEIG Railway Trieste - Divača

Since 1998, the Slovenian Republic and the Italian Republic have been planning within the framework of “Progetto Prioritario” (Priority Project) no. 6 (hereinafter PP6): Railway axis Lyon-Trieste-Divača/Capodistria–Divača–Ljubljana–Budapest-Ukrainian border and of the V European corridor the Trieste-Divača cross-border route.

In 2012 the member states within the Intergovernmental Commission (IGC) agreed to establish a body, the EEIG, for the purposes of joint planning activities.

On 23 May 2013, the companies RFI – Rete Ferroviaria Italiana SpA and DRI Upravljanje Investicij, Družba za razvoj infrastrukture doo signed in Rome the Deed of Incorporation of the European Economic Interest Grouping – Trieste-Divača cross-border railway line (EEIG railway Trieste-Divača).

To date, the EEIG railway Trieste-Divača has carried out its activities in accordance with the EC co-financing Decision C(2008)7728 already amended by Decision C(2012)9592 final of 11/12/2012 and by Decision C(2015)7014 final of 9/10/2015.
The EEIG reports on the progress of its activities to the IGC, which supervises its performance whenever required.
